This is the walkthrough for Chapter 1 “Necropolis” – Early.
This guide is written from a single-player perspective, but the puzzles, combat details, and Doll locations can help co-op players as well. Each step is explained with images so you can follow along smoothly.

Things to Know
Collect All 5 Dolls to Unlock the Achievement
There are 5 Dolls hidden throughout the Necropolis. Picking up all of them unlocks the “Toybox” achievement / trophy.
In this walkthrough for the first half of the chapter, you can grab three of them at points ④, ⑭, and ⑰. (The remaining two are covered in the second-half walkthrough.)
Necropolis (Early) Walkthrough

First, choose your character.
[Low]
Uses the bow to shoot switches, hit targets, knock things down, and cut ropes.
[Alone]
Uses the wrench to break walls and operate certain machines or mechanisms.

Use Low’s bow to shoot the switch high up.
Alternatively, you can call Low over near the switch and let the AI handle the shot.
From now on, in any situation that requires cooperation, using the “Call” action will often prompt your partner to automatically move into position and perform their role. (This mainly applies in single-player.)

Keep walking through the desert to the right until you reach a wall with a ladder. Climb up.
When climbing, hold the grab button and don’t let go.
At the top, go through the passage and use Alone’s wrench to break the cracked wall.
④ (Doll)
Work together to pull the big crate out of the way so that there’s a gap in the wall you can slip through.
There is a Doll lying in the middle of this room. Pick it up. Collecting every Doll in every chapter unlocks a special achievement.

Break the narrow wooden plank by jumping on it, then have Low use the bow to shoot the rope and drop the hanging platform.
After that, use the fallen platforms as stepping stones and climb the ladder.
To climb onto the dropped platforms, jump towards them and then press the grab button to pull yourself up.

After climbing the ladder from ⑤, you’ll find another suspended platform that Low can shoot down with the bow.
Use the fallen platform to jump towards the entrance of the next room. If you can’t quite reach, press jump and grab together.

Have Alone, equipped with the wrench, operate the bolt-like machine counterclockwise. This extends a platform from the opposite side. If Alone lets go, the platform retracts and Low will fall, so keep holding.
While Alone holds the machine in place, Low rides the extended platform and shoots the rope through the cracked wall using the bow.
Once the rope is cut, the platform locks in place and both characters can cross to the right. Push the double doors together to open them.

Pull the box in the back of the room and drag it onto the pressure plate.
One character is enough to push it.

Climb the ladder up to the locked door, then head into the room on the left.
Turn the large gear counterclockwise to lower the lift platform.
Once it’s fully lowered, have one character ride the platform while the other turns the gear clockwise to send them up to the upper floor.

Once on the upper floor, pull the nearby lever to the left to lower a ladder. The character at the gear can now climb up to join you.
After both characters meet up, move to the far left of the upper floor and pull off the nailed board to open a path.

In the next room you’ll see a crow holding a key. Shoot it down with Low’s bow.
Pick up the dropped key with the grab button to add it to your inventory.
Return to the locked door and use the key to unlock it, then move on.


⑩
Follow the path outside for a while and look for a closet on the far right. Pull off the front boards together.
Inside you’ll find an umbrella. Equip it, then step into the vent with the rising wind to float upward to the upper floor.
If you drift too far left or right, you’ll slip out of the wind column, so stay roughly in the center and make small adjustments.
Once you reach the top, jump to grab the rope and ride the zipline to the far right platform.


⑪
There’s a hatch in the floor. Have both characters jump on it at the same time to weigh it down.
Repeat the jumps a few times and the hatch will fully open, letting you drop down to the lower floor.

From here, keep running and use the umbrella to ride the wind currents as needed.
After using the wrench to break a wall, you’ll have to drop from a high place, so make sure the umbrella is equipped when you jump down.
⑬
In the room where Monster Baby is peeking in, you’ll need to avoid its searchlight.
Use pillars and statues as cover and move in short bursts while staying out of the light.
There’s a pressure plate beneath the large sack. Stand on it with both characters to open the way to the next floor.

⑭ (Doll)
After dropping down, break the wall on the left with the wrench to find another Doll. Crouch to squeeze through the small gap.
Keep moving toward the foreground for a while, then have both characters pull open the hatch door.

In the beetle fight, four enemies will attack you in total. Try to take them out before they get too close.
Have Low shoot the beetles with the bow, then have Alone smash the fallen beetles with the wrench.
The main thing to watch out for is wasting shots on beetles that are just passing by. If you fire at those, you might miss the ones actually charging you and end up getting hit.
Wait until a beetle is clearly aiming for you, then shoot. Even if it’s a bit far away, your arrows should still connect.

⑯
In the room lined with wooden boards, use the intact planks like a ladder to climb up.

⑰ (Doll)
Follow the path and you’ll find a broken spiral staircase. A Doll is sitting at the top, so don’t forget to grab it.
Once you’re outside, equip the umbrella and ride the updraft from below to reach the platform on the right.
The next platform is at a lower height, so alternate between equipping and unequipping the umbrella to adjust your altitude as you glide over.


⑱
Push the long board further in to make it tip over, creating a new path. Use it as a bridge to continue.

⑲
In the narrow alley, Monster Baby will peek in again. Hide behind the wooden crate to stay out of its sight.

⑳
When Monster Baby rips open a hole in the wall, quickly jump into it and escape.
The passage will get narrower as you go, so crouch if you get stuck.
